I am new to Gmail. I imported my contacts from EarthLink into Gmail
in .csv format. I then converted them from "Suggested Contacts" to "My
Contacts". But when I click "Compose Message" and get a new message
window, nothing that I enter in the "To" field brings up any
contacts. Lilewise, in reverse, if I click on a contact and then open
a message window the name and/or email address will not populate the
"To:" field. I can successfully send a message if I key in a full
email address, even though it is in my Contacts list.
ChipBGoldstein
just press the key's keeping cursor in to field for listing names as
per key press e.g "a" ,"b" to list names contains "a" like alex, aryan
etc etc.
Regards
Prashant!

Chip, I am new to gmail (from earthlink) and in the same situation.
There is no functional engagement between "My Contacts" and "Compose
Email". When I "Select All" my addresses to send out a notice of my
change of address, the notice only goes to me. When I select a few
contacts to send them an email and click on the "email" option,
nothing happens: no message window opens. Have you found any
solutions?

Thanks for your suggestion but it did not work. I have since then
further isolated my problem, however: it seems to have something to do
with the "Older Version" / "Newer Version" option. When I switch to
the Older Version I then get a contacts list that is tabbed and
provides options to compose mail and to send to all. In the Newer
Version my contacts are just a one-column list without options for
composing or selecting all. With the tabbed version open, I then re-
imported my .csv file, which duplicated entries but at least gave me
the functionality to compose messages to them.
After re-importing the .csv file, however, a new problem occured: I
could not edit my contacts. However, that problem resolved itself
after I exited GMail and then re-launched it. Between signing off and
then signing back on, and between switching from Newer to Older
versions, I'm gradually gaining the full Gmail functionality. This is
really whacky; it must have something to do with the process of
importing .csv files.
