Subject: Saving messages to file
I don't know if this is the right place to ask...

I have a bunch of messages in my Gmail account, under a label. Thing
is, I'd like to get rid of the label, but not the messages. I was
wondering if there was a way to save them to files in my computer. I
don't want to keep these messages there, staring at me whenever I log
in to my e-mail.

Thanks.

Just to make things clear; simply removing the label would get the
messages lost among the rest. I want to be able to look at them again,
I just don't want to have the label there, taunting me.

It's... complicated.

In this case, what I do is rename the label starting with "zz" to
shove it down to the end of my label list where it is less able to
"taunt" me.

But if you really want to put the messages on your computer and delete
them from gmail, choose an IMAP desktop email client (Mozilla
thunderbird or MS Outlook will do) and follow the instructions in the
help center to configure them for IMAP access. Then the label will
appear as a folder and you can copy the messages from the folder to a
place on your local computer. After than, you can delete them.

Click on the label that will give you all the messages in the label
you want to get rid of.  Make the new label you would like apply to
them, click them all, add the new label(s), and then click on 'remove
the XX label' choice given at  the bottom, when the batch opened.  If
you want to sort the messages inside the hated label into different
labels, click only the ones you want to add to some other label, one
at a time.  Then you can go to Edit labels, and remove the hated label
altogether.
