Description: Discussion of written science fiction and fantasy.

YASID Frog People?
Okay, I'm trying to find out the title of a fantasy (or possibly science fiction) novel, probably published during the Nineties, set in a vaguely medieval world, in which a young couple who are both archeologists travel around to various countries, one of which is inhabited by frog-people. If this sounds familiar to any of you, I'd appreciate any leads.... more »

One handed fantasy revenge story title/author needed
Heroic fantasy paperback book from the late sixties or very early seventies. Cover has a muscular warrior with a large spike studded morning star where his right hand should be (possibly Jeff Jones or Frazetta artwork) Okay here goes, a kingdom overthrown by evil baron. The king is slain and the baron has had the 9-10 year old heir to the... more »

YASID short story with overly adapted alien daughter
Forwarding a request that was emailed to MITSFS: I'm trying to identify a science fiction short story I read in the late 60s or early 70s (it could have been published earlier). It's about a woman who realizes, too late, that her father was an alien. She's been different her whole life but has changed herself to fit in... more »

Missing Volume 6 Girl Genius Page
I was re-reading my printed copies of the GG TPB for volumes 1 through 6 - and am eagerly awaiting the opportunity to buy volume 7 locally, as the Post Office charges $5 for charging GST on imported items - when I noticed a page I didn't remember seeing. Checking, I find that between [link]... more »

Dreamtime story?
Does anyone remember this short SF story? I think I read it around 1970 or so, maybe a bit later. A man is sailing through outer space between the stars. He sits in a little one-man open boat, sailing through the dreamtime. Above him, a gigantic gossamer sail cathes the slight pressure of light from... more »

Schild's ladder
Have you someone read Schild's ladder from Greg Egan? I haven't finished yet, but I want to ask you something: how did this 'Slowdown' work? I mean, whole planet was waiting for anyone who'd traveled until he got back. People changed their perception of the world so it didn't look strange to them, but how did they managed not to starve to death... more »

Amorality Tales
[link] July 20, 2008 Across the Universe Amorality Tales By DAVE ITZKOFF No matter how many of my remaining brain cells are eaten up by song lyrics or “Simpsons” catchphrases, there is one scene from a fantasy novel I shall never forget: Our hero has fallen in with a horde of... more »

The Girl Genius GURPS Prophecy
I finally found the comment about the Girl Genius Secret Blueprints reading like a Girl Genius character description: it was in a post by Douglas Muir on rec.arts.comics.misc on September 3, 2001: <begin quote> 1) I really liked the prequel issue, and it was certainly a good buy for $1.50. On rereading, though, it occurs to me that it reads a... more »

YASID: Fantasy series, College kid travels to magic land
I'm trying to remember the books. The main character of the last book I read, which I don't think was the first, is a college kid who teaches fencing, or maybe just tutors. Anyway, he gets into a fantasy world where swordfighting is a big thing. They make fun of him for his style, but he ends up winning a big fight based on the opponent... more »
